▶ Title : From Data to Digital Twins: Modeling, Optimization, and Visualization for Industrial Automation
▶ Abstract : This talk explores how data science, statistical modeling, and optimization can be applied to complex challenges in industrial automation and beyond. I will first discuss classical approaches such as predictive maintenance, experimental design, and shipping logistics optimization, highlighting how data-driven modeling and visualization inform real-world decision-making.
Building on this, I will introduce advanced techniques in reinforcement learning for robot navigation and dynamic digital twins that enable adaptive representations of factories, warehouses, and even sports environments. Applications span from flood prediction to dynamic simulations such as warehouse inventory tracking and 3D object segmentation, and hockey game modeling. By bridging statistical methods with modern AI and robotics, the talk demonstrates how data-driven intelligence can power next-generation autonomous systems and digital infrastructure.
▶ Short Bio : Jeongran Lee is a Research Statistician in the Modeling and Optimization Group at the AI Research Lab, Nokia Bell Labs, USA. Her research focuses on statistical modeling, data visualization, robotics, and digital twin technologies for industrial automation. Before joining Bell Labs, she received her Ph.D. (2013) and M.S. (2008) in Statistics from Seoul National University, and her B.S. (2004) in Statistics from Ewha Womans University.
